Business metrics
A business metric counts what a group of people and AI agents produces, in its own unit: contacts resolved, claims verified, orders shipped. Flowstate puts the cost of those people and agents beside the count. You see what one unit costs, and how much of the work AI did without a person.
That's how you answer "what is AI returning?" with your own figures. See Show what AI returns with business metrics.
Go to Insights → Business metrics.
You need access to view business metrics — ask your Flowstate admin. If Business metrics isn't switched on for your organisation, ask your Flowstate contact.
Read the Metrics tab
- Choose the period with the period control. It starts at the last 12 months.
- Read the sentence at the top. It says how many metrics carry a cost per unit. Where AI and people both handle a metric's work, it names the widest gap between what a unit costs when AI resolves it and when a person does.
- Read the table. Metrics are grouped by Whose cost this is. Metrics nobody has priced yet sit under Not attributed to anyone yet.

What goes into the cost
You enter only what was produced. Flowstate supplies the cost.
- Volume is the readings for the period added together, across every source.
- People is what the people chosen under Whose cost this is cost for the work they did. It's worked out the same way as actual cost everywhere else in Flowstate.
- Agents is the cost of the AI sessions Flowstate records for those people, plus the sessions of AI agents working on their projects. A provider bill that only arrives as a total isn't included.
- Cost is counted only for the dates your readings cover within the period, so output and cost describe the same stretch of time.
A dash means there's no figure to show. A metric nobody has said Whose cost this is for is counted but not priced. If you can't see costs elsewhere in Flowstate, you see volumes and AI share here, but no costs.
Tip
Two metrics can name the same people. Their costs then overlap, so don't add cost columns together across metrics.
Where business metrics show up
- A metric's page shows cost per unit by AI and by a person, and lets you Model a change. See Create and read a metric.
- A project's Value tab shows the business metric the project's team produces. See Project value.
- Breakdown in Agent insights shows a Per unit column when you aggregate by Projects. See Breakdown.
- Hybrid workforce shows the cost of people and AI across the whole organisation. See Hybrid workforce.
- Eddy answers questions like "What does a resolved contact cost us, with and without a person?". See Eddy.
