Configuration Overview
Flowstate ships with a set of foundational configuration entities that control how your workforce data is organized, how costs are calculated, and how projects are categorized. These settings form the backbone of every forecast, report, and scenario in the platform.
Before you start importing employees or creating projects, take the time to configure these entities. Getting them right up front means accurate forecasts from day one.
Entity Configuration
These entities define the categories and classifications applied to your workforce and project data.
| Entity | Description | Link |
|---|---|---|
| Work Types | Employment classifications with overhead rates for cost calculations | Work Types |
| Value Streams | Strategic business capability groupings for projects | Value Streams |
| Cost Centres | Financial categorization units for budget tracking (CapEx/OpEx) | Cost Centres |
| Exchange Rates | Multi-currency conversion rates for financial forecasting | Exchange Rates |
| Geographies | Locations with working day calendars and regional cost settings | Geographies |
| Job Roles | Role classifications assigned to employees and vacancies | Job Roles |
| Departments | Organizational divisions for structural reporting | Departments |
Financial Configuration
Financial settings determine how Flowstate calculates and reports costs across your organization.
- Work types define overhead percentages that are applied on top of base salaries to compute fully loaded costs. See Work Types.
- Exchange rates allow multi-currency organizations to normalize all costs to a single reporting currency. See Exchange Rates.
- Cost centres enable CapEx vs OpEx classification and departmental budget tracking. See Cost Centres.
Organizational Structure
Organizational entities reflect the shape of your company and control how data is grouped in forecasts and reports.
- Geographies define the physical locations where your workforce operates, including working day calendars and public holidays. See Geographies.
- Job roles classify positions across the organization and are assigned to employees and vacancies. See Job Roles.
- Departments represent the high-level organizational divisions your teams belong to. See Departments.
Permissions
All configuration changes require the appropriate settings permissions. There are two permission groups:
| Permission Group | Covers | Required For |
|---|---|---|
settings_entity_config_* | Work types, value streams, geographies, job roles, departments | Creating, editing, and deleting entity configuration |
settings_financial_config_* | Cost centres, exchange rates | Creating, editing, and deleting financial configuration |
TIP
Assign configuration permissions to a small group of administrators. Changes to these settings affect all forecasts and cost calculations across the organization.
WARNING
Modifying configuration entities (such as changing an overhead percentage or deactivating a value stream) can affect existing forecasts and reports. Review the impact notes on each configuration page before making changes in a production environment.
